Asalamu-alikum:
I am a almost 20 year old young muslim woman. I have a question about having your Nikah done.
Scenario:
If there is a 21 year old man, studying at the same college as myself, and working part-time is someone I want to spend my life with and he has also proposed to me, is it possible to have our nikah done if we have liked each other over a year now?
My parents and his parents know each other since we were 11 years old but his mother would not approve of this proposal because she is forcing him to get married to his cousin. I know that Islam does not allow forceable marriages. We would like to spend out lives together by following islam properly.
We had found out that, two people can have their Nikah done without their parents knowing if they think that their parents will agree later some time. We would like not to commit more sins and have our nikah done.
So, my question is, Is it allowed in Islam do have our Nikah read by a friend or brother who is islamically an adult without our parents knowing, but we do decide to share it with them later (Inshallah) when we have educated ourselves and at least have our degrees?
And the other question is that, if we do get our Nikah done, what would or should happen if our parents do not agree later on?
Please help us out as we did ask some of the Imam's here in Canada about this and they said it is permissible in Islam to do that because marriage needs to accepted by heart.
Also, if it is possible and it would be a great help Alhumdulillah that you could provide me with the surah versus or maybe hadiths that will allow us to take the step of a Nikah without our parents knowing.
JazakAllah
Regards,
Muslim Sister
