Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam The adhan after the burial denotes the fact that both the deceased person and those who are present, testify that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah the Almighty, and that Muhammad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam is His Beloved Messenger, and that that was his state when he was alive, and that that is his state, and will be his state in the next world. This act is something which is controversial. Some people say that it is an innovation (bid'ah), while other people will do their utmost best, in making recitations, supplications, and invocations, so that the deceased person is prevented from the hardships of the Hereafter, or the calamities of Munkir and Nakir, or the turmoils of the grave. According to the ahl-al-Sunnah this act is not regarded as an innovation as is proven from original texts, and other sources. However, on the other hand we do not believe it to be obligatory, or necessary either, only that such acts, are a merit for the deceased, and for those who are around him. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
