Assalamu alaikum,
i would appreciate a detailed answer to this question/questions as i did start a thread on this subject on the forum and got some varied answers.
i)Am i correct in saying that in a non emergency situation where the alternative would be public transport i.e bus A MALE CANNOT TAKE A LIFT FROM A GHAIR MAHRAM?
ii) If i a male take a lift from a male colleague it is ok. However sometimes this male colleague also gives a lift to a female colleague (we are all ghair mahrams to each other). Am i still allowed to take this lift as the alternative would be the bus and men and women sit in one bus together so sitting in car together me in the front seat her in the back with a male driver is similar? The only difference i see is on a bus there maybe i.e 20 passengers i.e 12 male, 8 female and in this car we are 2 male and one female.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Its best to travel seperately, unless there are threatening situations. There is no problem taking the bus, nor is there a problem taking your own car if you are female. Men should not encourage women to take a lift with them. Jazak'allah for your question.
