Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa SallamRespected Imam sahib I hope to find you in good health and imaan inshAllah. This is a query relating to an older relative (late sixties) who has recently lost her husband. The question is do the iddat terms/conditions apply to all women regardless of their age?? and what is the period of iddat? Look forward to your reply. JazakAllah Khayrun Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu[/i]

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam The iddat term for women can apply if they are: a) Divorced b) Widowed This is known as the probationary period, and it is three months for a woman where she has recieved a divorce from her former husband, or in cases of where an elderly woman has lost her husband, then it is four months and ten days, and that is for a widower. This probationary period must be sought through in case where a woman wants to re-marry, again. It is basically a wait, in which the woman is deemed purified from her recent marriage/husband. The iddat rules apply both to women who are divorced and to those who are widowed. i.e. it applies to all married women. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
