Energy drinks bad for health Washington, October 03: Scientists believe caffeinated energy drinks used to improve alertness and sports performance can result in serious health concerns. According to a report published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, caffeine abuse along with nausea and vomiting, high blood pressure, tremors, dizziness and numbness are the main side effects reported after drinking these beverages. Johns Hopkins University researchers claim that there is no caffeine limit for energy drinks; FDA, however, has defined caffeine limits of 71 milligrams per 12 fluid ounces for cola-type soft drinks. The report shows that while the majority of energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine (79 to 500 mg), they lack warning labels. Meanwhile, some health officials maintain that the caffeine content of energy drinks is less than that of brewed coffee and other similar beverages, suggesting that these products should also be labeled along with energy drinks. --Agencies ==================== SEARCH BY Muhammed A.
