Energy-saving light bulbs certain health problems Washington, October 12: A new study shows that being too close to energy-saving light bulbs can make individuals more vulnerable to certain health problems. According to the recently published study, ultraviolet emissions from energy-saving light bulbs can cause redness of the skin in certain individuals. The study shows that close contact with energy-saving light bulbs for more than one hour a day increases the risk. The contact, however, did not pose any increased cancer risk to the individuals. Findings revealed that the UV light emitted from these bulbs is equal to that emitted on a sunny day and that enclosed compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs with covered coils are associated with less health concerns. Health Protection Agency officials concluded that while families should not remove energy-saving light bulbs from their homes, they should limit their contact with unencapsulated light bulbs which have visible light coils. Health officials also urge individuals to replace single envelope CFL bulbs with double envelope ones which are similar to traditional light bulbs in appearance and do not emit significant amounts of ultra violet radiation --Agencies ================================ SEARCH BY Muhammed A.
