i've come across this before and was wondering if anybody could explain what a calandar is.
and was hazrat Ahmed Raza Khan a calandar? and if so who is the calandar of this time?

At first i thought what are you talking about, ''does she not know what a calendar is, like in diary, then i realised it wasnt as obvious, you mean Qalander (Qa-lun-dar). Qalander is another name for a sufi. The most famous sufis from the sub cont were Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalander Radi Allahu anhu and Hzt Bu Ali Shah Qalander Radi Allahu anhu, they were known as Qalanders. I beleieve theres a qalanderia tariqah as well with many thousands of murids.

Sayyedi Aala hazrat Radi Allahu anhu is not Qalander. Qalander is also maqaam in Wilayat. The most famous Qalander's are :
Syed Muhammad Usman fondly Known As Lal shahBaaz Qalander Radi Allahu anhu
Khwaja Sharfuddin fondly known as Bu Ali Shah Qalander Radi Allahu anhu
Dada Hayaat Qalander Radi Allahu anhu.
Sayyeditina Rabia Basri Qalander Radi Allahu anha
JazakAllahu Khayrun
Dama dam Mast Qalander Ali dum dum de andar Lal Shahbaz Qalander , Bu Ali shah Qalander Rabia Basri qalander , Dada Hayaat Qalander

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Rahim
A Qalandar is one who is overpowered by Divine intoxication. There is a Silsila named Qalandariya because it's members were all intoxicated and had an overdose of inspiration resulting in constant ecstasies and raptures and were, therefore, unable to guide others. They were "Mast" (overwhelmed) in their own "Hal", and did not, or could not, look after others. Silsila Qalandariya consisits of Mashaikh belonging to various Salasul (plurial of Silsila).
Some of the Qalandars are: Muhammad Qalandar, Shah Haider Qalandar, Shah Hussain Balkhi, Shams Tabriz, Shaikh Fakhruddin Iraqi, Khwaja Ishaq Maghrabi, Khwaja Hafiz Shirazi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum.
In India one of the greatest Qalandars was Shah Khizr Rumi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu who lived during the reign of Sultan Shashuddin Altamash. He was Mureed of Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiar Kaki Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, who bestowed upon him the khirqa-i-Khalafat but did not tell him to leave his robe of Qalandari. Shah Najmuddin Qalandar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu was also his Mureed and Khalifa.
Another prominent Qalandar in the subcontinent was Shah Sharfuddin Abu Ali Qalandar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, who received spiritual inspiration from Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiar Kaki Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu, in the Uwaisi fashion. He was a poet as well. His Ghazals are very popular in the subcontinent and are sung in Qawwali everywhere. His follower's verse is very famous:
"If Bu Ali had not sounded the clarion of Qalandari, the Qalandars would have been mere Sufis."
Another eminent Qalandar of the subcontinent is Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu whose tomb is at Sehvan Shareef in Sindh and is the resort of the people all over the country.
For the general people, when visiting the Mazar of a Qalandar it is advised not to stay for too long because They are always in a mood to pour forth, spiritual blessings, all at once without caring whether you can digest or not. This may tell upon your spiritual progress. The best is to get a taste of what They have to offer and move away.
Taken from the book Islamic Sufism, written by Captain Wahid Baksh Rabbani Rahmatullahu Alay, Mureed and khalifa of His Eminence Maulana Syed Muhammad Zauqi Shah Rahmatullahu Alay.

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuCan some one share some Info on HAZRAT RABIA BASRI QALANDAR JazakAllah Khair Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
This is that pious women, that the entire Muslim world knows.? She used to weep day and night in the fear of Almighty Allah. If any one spoke of Hell in her presence, then she would become unconscious due to the fear of Allah.
She used to spend most of her time praying Nafil Salaah. Almighty Allah had blessed her with such a pure heart, that she could tell of things that happened thousands of miles away. She was without doubt a Waliyah. Not only did she know what would happen distances away, but she could see them happening with her eyes. Great Scholars and Saints would come to her home to take her blessings and her Duas. Sayyida Raabia Basria (radi Allahu anha) spent her entire life in the Ibadaat of Almighty Allah. May Almighty Allah bless our mothers and sisters to learn from the life of this pious Saint. May the life and the teachings of Sayyida Rabia Basria (radi Allahu anha) serve as a means of guidance and understanding for Muslim sisters. May her blessings be a means of the acceptance of our duas and a guiding light for all of us in the hereafter. Aameen

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuDoes any one 've examples to this.. and what is the maximum time that you can stay there.. Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuFor people who have taken bayat, it's safe because one's Shaykh filters the spiritual blessings so that the mureed gets what he can digest. Normally it does not happen just like this, that someone who is not mureed to any Shaykh yet, when he goes to a mazhar of a Qalandar he gets a load of spiritual blessings that he cannot digest. All depends on the inner state of that person. Even if he is not a mureed but by being regular in ibaadat with sincerity and fear his heart's state change and becomes a sensitive receptacle of spiritual blessings and in such case the person can fall into wajd at the mazhar when the blessings are being poured forth by the Wali. Hope this helps sister.
