Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
i have a question as to if i was to adopt a girl would my husband and sons be ghair mehram for her?
if so then how would one bring her up in the same household.
also what is the situation if one was to adopt a boy when they had girls? would he then be ghair mehram for me? and if i had any girls?
would this not be accepted?
Jazakallah Khair

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam No it wouldnt be, not until the age of puberty. Once she would reach that age, she would become independant (i.e. sleeping, changing clothes, bathing etc) would all now be done in the absence of her brothers and sisters. They would remain mahram for her until that age, and once past that age, they would be gayr mahram. She would be in the same household until that age, and once she would be past that age, as long as she does not get involved in anything they are not supposed to it would be fine. This is a basic requirement of the shar'iyyah, and the shar'iyyah has stated what the does and donts are. It's basically that simple. The same applies to if having a boy, only that the puberty age for a boy is a little more prolonged. Normally for a girl it is 9-12 years of age, and for a boy it is 12-15. All those activities would now be prohibited, which were once allowed, as is the case for children when they go to school etc. May Allah the Almighty prohibit us from doing all those things which are prohibited from the shar'i perspective, and may He permit us to do all that which the shar'iyyah allows us to do. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
