Assalamu Alaykum sisters,
May Allah always bring you peace and joy in this lifetime and endless happiness and comfort in the next.
I am trying to find different ways to improve my husband's health. He is a strong man, Alhamdulallah, but sometimes gets chest pains and has had several anxiety attacks due to a high-stress business. I have asked my doctor for ways to improve his heart health at home. We do not eat outside, we cook healthy at home and eat fruits and vegetables regularly. My husband also walks a great deal and gets an adequate amount of exercise each day. He prays regularly, ensuring his mind and soul gets the nutrition of Allah. My doctor recommended that we drink a small amount of red wine with dinner as it is rich in antioxidants, raise good cholesterol, and decrease the level of bad cholesterol in the body. It also prevents blood clots from forming around the heart, thus preventing or decreasing the risk of heart disease.
As we are a Muslim family and honor the traditions of Islam, we do not drink alcohol under any circumstances nor do we cook with alcohol ingredients. However, since my doctor had suggested its usage to prevent heart disease I have researched it and found its inclusion to be beneficial in a person's diet. I realize that drinking alcohol is against Islam, especially since it can bring alcoholism and socialized drinking if taken in large quanitities. But in this case, my husband would be drinking a small amount (about half a glass or small cup) with dinner at home with me. No socializing whatsoever, this is strictly for health reasons.
Would this be ok or is it still haram?
Peace be upon all and may Allah continue to bless you.
May Allah always bring you peace and joy in this lifetime and endless happiness and comfort in the next.
