Penalty for Insulting the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam

This is an enormous subject, but we shall concentrate in what constitutes an insult then the impending penalty.

1. The verdict of infidelity for insulting the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam will depend upon the apparent words and no consideration will be given to the intention and the purpose of the person committing the insult and the circumstances of the time.

2. Truly whoever abused the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam or ascribed any fault to him or attributed any defect to his family, religion or his habit, or reproached him, or compared the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam with any defective thing with the objective of degrading his personality and prestige, he is truly an abusive person and deserves to be executed. We make absolutely no exception to this verdict, whether the insult has been committed intentionally or unintentionally. This has been the verdict of all the Ulema of the Ummah from the time of the Companions to the present day.

3. If a Muslims abuses the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu sallallahu alaihi wasallam or lies about him or picks out faults in him, or robs him of his dignity, he commits the act of infidelity against Allah azzowajal.

4. When a person (a Muslim) speaks ill of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam is any connection, he becomes an infidel. According to some Ulema, if a man uses an insulting word even for the sacred hair of the Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam he will become an infidel.

It is narrated by Imam Abu Hafs Al Kabir that if anybody ascribes a defect even to the sacred hair of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam he will become an infidel. Imam Muhammad alaih rahmah mentioned in his 'Mabsut' that it is an act of infidelity to abuse the Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) sallallahu alaihi wasallam.

5. It is beyond doubt that the whole of the Ummah is unanimous tha one who slanders the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam or other Prophets, is an infidel, whether he committed this act while considering it legitimate or illegitimate. He is an infidel in the opinion of the Ulema, and whoever doubts his infidelity is also an infidel.

We can go on quoting the righteous Ulema on this topic and the verdict is the same, a single bad word towards the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in any circumstances, intentional or not, leads to Kufr! Furthermore, any Muslim doubting the Kufr of an abuser of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam will himself become a Kafir!

i was once withhadret ayyed sahib Qibla alayhi rehma we were eating some food that had been prepared through a dawat. The Shaykh passed some kaddo daal top a brother who replied Shaykh i don't like kaddo, to which the shaykh replied la howla wala quwata illah billah. After the food and the Shaykh become angry and said:

(1) In the court of sayyidina imam Shafi qadda sallah sirru a similar acount happent when a man said he did not liek kaddoo, the Eminent Imam qadda sala sirru gave a fatwa of kufferthen and there upon the man, the man become in a state of shock and sought repentence asking what he had done wrong, Imam Shafi qadda salla sirru explained that Nabiyul Mukhtar sallahu alayhi was salam liked kaddoo and since the man was saying he did not like kaddo he was going against something which Nabiyul Mukhtar sallahu alayhi was salam liked.
(2) one time mujjaddaani deeno millat qaddasalla sirru ala Hadret qada salla sirru was giving dars and a student asked regarding a fatawa givne by Qazi Abu yusef qadda salla sirru present in fatawa Alamghir, that states "the person who says that the Prophet sallahu alayhi was salams cloak (jubba) become dirt has commited kufir", the Talib asked regarding this and said how can this afatwa be understood as sayyidina nabiyul mukhtar sallahu alayhi was salam sat down. ujjaddaani deeno millat qaddasalla sirru ala Hadret qada salla sirru said the fatwa was correct and that the correct position would be to say "that the earth was recieving rehma from the cloak of the beloved of Allah sallahu alayhi was salam!"

as Sidi stated early sahibi Shifa et al (raddul Mukhtar, darrul mukhtar & fatawa alamghiri) say "kafirun wa shaka fee azaabihi wa azaabihi jahanam) "The person who in any way miligns the beloved of Allah allahu alayhi was salam he has commited kufr and any one doubting that person is a disbeliever then he himself is a disbeliever"
