brother an aspiring seeker of the path (mureed) who does not have one foot on aqaid and one foot on shariah will die will die a misguided lover there is a saying from the elders of this deen cannot rember the quote something like jo karray bazzil ilme faqir..marjayga kaffir divana" a seeker who does not pay attention to the aqida and shariatullah will be an ignorent lover, according to the great shaykh sayyindina muhammed bi ta'ii ibne el arabic maroof shaykhi abker ibne el arabi, he states "if you do not have the requite knowledge of aqaid fiqh and kalam you should not read our books!" every wali is an alim not every alim is a wali, the adabhere is if you don't know you should ask..........and if there is no one to ask to be patient and wait........
with regards to your post regarding loving ones shaykh there is 2 thing love comes in 2 sorts brother:
(1) love that opens your heart
(2) love that blinds you
if you love your shaykh or anyone or anything and that closes you off from the realities of truth then that is blind love and will make you stagnate on the path.
where as the love that opens your heart is the love one should seek because by loving your shaykh you will want to be like him and copy him in his actions and the love for the deen will penetrate your heart, so much that you will gain a desire (jazbul quloobi) to learn knowledge (allah says when i love a person i give him the knowledge of fiqh!)
our aqeeda brother should not be blind neither should our learning of fiqh and neither should our love for the elders of deen.
