Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Bone-meal is used in agriculture to help tomatoes and other fruits/vegetables grow. Bone-meal is simply crushed bone from pork and cattle to enrich soil with phosphate.
So if the bone of a pork or a non-zabiha slaughtered cow was used, does this make tomatoes haram to eat?
From what I have read from people discussing this issue -they are not scholars by the way- is that if something chemically changes and thus it isn't what it was before, the judgement (najis or not) on that material becomes different. This is also the case with bone-meal which breaks down so the tomato plant can use the phosphates.
Gelatine is also the product of a chemical reaction where one molecule splits and three other molecules are obtained (hydrolises). So does this make gelatine halal? Is there consensus among the scholars on this issue.
Can anyone shed light on this?
Wassalamu 'alaykum
ps. It just crossed my mind that dung is considered impure yet we is use it in agriculture?

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhuit's not just used in agriculture brother in india and pakistan and i assume other poor countries it is even used to make house's and floor's are covered with it mixed in with mud and straw. people read namaaz over this so i'm guessing it's pure after it's dried but even then it has to be cow or something similar as dog poo is still considered impure. as to the rest of your question i haven't the slightest clue

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAlhamdulillah. I found it on the Muslimconsumergroup website! Masha Allah, Syed Rasheeduddin really has done some extensive research. May Allah reward him in abundance. Basically he says that the basic components of collagen (= raw material for gelatin) remains the same when reacting with other components. Read more here: Tabdeele mahiya 1And here: Tabdeele mahiya 2Here's a little extractRequirements for Tabdeele mahiya are:The common understanding about change in the original status is that it should not contain original components. Some Islamic scholars do not pay attention to this fact and consider that any chemical changes or reactions result in a new composition, which is not true.Wassalamu 'alaykum
