Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
When someone reverts to Islam it's all happiness that day. Both for the revert and for the Muslim community. But what happens after that day? Is there enough support for them and how do you do that?
I mean suppose you have an ex-Christian who used to engage in all the special family activities/time during Christmas time. Once a Muslim how do you help reverts to cope with this emptiness during this time.
Another question I find interesting is, do reverts in general want to be helped? Or do they want to be left alone in the sense that they would feel obligated/pushed to do certain things when keeping in contact with Muslims on a structural basis?
I watched a video of sister who reverted and then suddenly realized how little I know of this special group Muslims. I have read many revert stories about their motives to come to Islam. Most of time the reasons for choosing Islam is: purity, authenticity, intellectual religion, a desired way of life. But then it struck me when I watched the video that indeed, what happens after that? What do we do to help them? We hear about many people comming to Islam, but where are they? Do we actually try to get to know them?
(Oops to many questions. Anyway don't forget to drop a few lines of your views).
Wassalamu 'alaykum

Bismillah
Wa 'alaykum us-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Thank you for bringing this up. There is definitely a great need for this... I'm a convert myself and in my experience most converts (or reverts if you prefer) feel abandoned and forgotten after the first few weeks in Islam. A lot of us lose our friends and parts or all of our family when we embrace Islam, so there is a even greater need to establish strong bonds with one's fellow Muslims.
