As-Salaam alaikum,
In ayat 76 of Surat Yusufa of the Holy Qur'an (12:76), Allah Ta'ala says:--
"Wa Fawqa Kulli zi 'ilmin 'aleem".. meaning "Above every knower is a higher knower".
Above every Ascension there is another Ascension, as it never ends. In this regards, the Awliyaullah understand that the Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, did not have just one Mi'eraj but he has Ma'arij (plural).... many Ascensions, not just one!
At this moment, the Prophet, alaihis-salaat Was-salaam, is in Ma'arij. Don't think he is in the grave, as some say. Do you think that Allah, who brought him to Qaba Qawsayni aw Adna, will keep him in the grave dead? No! Imam Suyuti, may Allah be Merciful to him, said in his Tafseer that the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said: "Anaa hayyun tariyyun fee qabree... I am alive, fresh in my grave.'' And he also said:--
"No one greets/prays on me except that Allah will send back my
soul to me, to return his greeting." (Ahmad, Bayhaqi and Abu Dawud)
So, whenever you make salawaat on the Prophet, alaihi salaat was-salaam, we/you must understand that he is looking at you! Look at his greatness that he sends salawaat on you, he is present for you/us in the same moment... Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam.
