it was great to learn that there are 3 different types of I'tikaaf, and also women can also perform I'tikaaf. and Insallah when i feel spiritually ready to perform I'tikaaf, then Insallah one ramzan i will start.
just one question, Are women aloud to perform I'tikaaf at the mosque, even though there is a seperate womens part upstairs of some mosque's?

This is what we've been discussing Hasina, (women praying in Mosques in Sister Tasleems Poll) Itikaaf, i dont think it's allowed as yet, i certainley havent heard of any women/sisters being allowed to stay in Mosques for Itikaaf ? Maybe that would be a burden for too many Sisters, who have young children and homes to look after and thats if they werent working or at Uni ! As far as i know women have to do Itikaaf at home. I think its expected more for men than sisters, because of 'our' roles but hey one day you never know........

Salams , I too remember my mother praying once when I was about 16, and id just left school, she asked me if i,ll be able to cope with the cooking and cleaning side if she sat in aitikaf, she explained that I wouldnt be able to ask her anything about worldly affairs , unless it was very important. I must admit I did find it hard at that age as I was so used to going to her, and asking what to do next, but we managed and she felt better for sitting in aitikaf so I was happy. I was thinking of sitting this year , as ive got a teanage girl who could help but decided against it, as ive also got two younger ones , one at primary and one at secondry, and thier probably wont manage , not talking to me for ten days. Especially if your in the same house. May be in a few years time hey!.
