Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. It is not an absolute requirement that we write the complete '' Salaam'' --- [ Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu] in our E-mail or SMS, as long as it saves us time, when we're busy as it can take up too many characters or space in our message system. The emphasis has to be that the written message of Salaam is understood, and it is not sent to a 'ghayr muslim' then this is fine. Of course when physically greeting another muslim we must always use the full expression of the whole Salaam --- Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
