Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam If somebody claims that they are a sayed, then that is a great claim if it is true. We should not even question the fact, or ask for evidence, to see whether they are a true sayed or not, but rather have a certain amount of respect for their claim. However, since a Sayed is a person who is a descendant of the Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, he will usually have a family linage, which is normally known as a shajrah, or a family tree, leading back to the Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. This is a proof of their status, but should not be requested, due to the element of respect, and the burden of responsibility they acquire, if this is true. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
