i have two questions to ask about while we are fasting, that im confused about, because of other opinions.
the first is, are we aloud to brush our teeth while we are fasting, making sure that we dont swallow the thoothpaste/water.
the second is, are we aloud to put vaseline on our lips while fasting, as long as we dont lick our lips.
the reason i am askin is because some people say you are aloud to do these things, but others are saying your not.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam, All the acts that are undesirable or doubtful may weaken or even nullify our acts of worship, should most certainly be avoided where possible. Toothpaste and mouthwash leave a 'taste' in our mouths and our Blessed Prophet (Salla Allahu Ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam) have informed us (Muslim Shareef) "There are two joys for the fasting person; a joy at time of breaking the fast and a joy at time of meeting his Lord. For his Lord the bad breath of his mouth is better than the odour of musk". The substitute is to use miswaak and we all know of the many benefits and bonuses for applying this much misunderstood yet beloved practice 'Sunnah' of Nabi-E-Kareem Alaihis 'salaam. Regarding the use of vaseline or any other form of ointment on the lips one must remember that whilst performing ablution (whu'du) it must thoroughly be removed/washed. May Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) grant us all the ability to learn, understand and follow His law and commands, under the guidance of those upon whom is His favour. M. Waseem Ashrafi
