Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Wa' laykum-as-Salaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu. During the month of Ramadhan, if a person knows that if he gargles some water in his mouth that it may enter the bottom domain of his mouth, and therefore enter into his stomach, which will cause his fast to be void, then he must not gargle during wudhu, or ghusl. However, because it is a sunnah of the mesenger of Allah (peace be upon Him), to clean the mouth, from amongst the numerous sunnahs that appear in wudhu/ghusl, a person can take extra care, by taking a little less amount of water, and by merely rinsing the mouth intead of gargling the mouth, although it must be made sure that the water reaches all the parts of his mouth, and no part of his mouth is left dry. Similarly, a person should not be so careless, that he merely touches his tongue with the water, or a part of his mouth, with the water, and considers that he has cleaned his mouth. This way the sunnah will not be performed, and will be lacking in the necessary acts of wudhu/ghusl. May Allah help us all to understand the importance of both the wudhu', and the ghusl. Wallahu A'lamu Biththawaab. M. Waseem Ashrafi.
