Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Hope you are in the best if health inshallah.
I would like to have some clarification on fasts that are nafils not compulsory.
If one makes an intention that tommorow I will keep a fast (for rajab) and because of ill health they are unable to keep that fast what must they do?? I was told you must do qadha of the fast because you had done niyyat, Please could you calrify this for me.
Jazakallah

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa SallamJazak'allah for your question. Where someone makes an intention to keep a supererogatory ( nafil) fast, and he is unable to do so because of some kind of illness, then he will get the reward for the intention that he has made, for keeping the fast, but will not receive any reward for the fast itself. There is no qadha', for not keeping the fast, nor is there any sin ( gunah), for not keeping the fast. He will only be rearded for the intention of the fast, as he would have acted upon the hadith: 'Innamal a'malu binniyaati' 'Indeed the foundation of actions are the intentions with which they are made' (Various hadith books) May Allah the Almighty make all of our intentions for the pleasure of He, and may He accept all of our good deeds.
