Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Wa'laykum-as-Salaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu. Salaah is a fard upon us all, and the age at which it must commence regularly, is at the age of 13, which is around the age when one reaches the age of maturity/puberty, depending on if you are a boy or a girl. Girls should normally commence during the age of about nine or ten, whereas the boys should really commence when they are about thirteen or fourteen. There is a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon Him), that for both sexes, they should at least be told to pray i.e. encouraged at the age of seven. At the age of nine permission is given to give physical punishment. At the age of eleven they should become regular namaazies. It must be remembered, that to perform the qadhaa's, of any salaah that has been missed is also obligatory. May Allah keep us all firm in the worship of the Almighty. M, Waseem Ashrafi.
