Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim,
wa'laykum-as-Salaam, wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu,
When you stand and pray in congregation (jamaa'at), it is not necessary to pray the fatiha, behind the Imam, in any of the rak'ats. The Qur'an says: "when the Qur'an is read, then listen to it attentively, and be silent, so that you may be blessed". (a'raf 204) This verse has been specifically descended from Allah regarding the recitation/non recitation of the Qur'an, in salah. Secondly, in the Mu'atta of Imam Malik, there is a Hadith which says: "whoever prays salah behind an Imam, then the recitation (qir'ah) of the Imam, is his recitation (qir'ah). The answer to the second part of your question of reading thana when you stand up, then it should be read as it is a sunnah-e-mu'akkidah act, which is very close to becoming a waajib act of praying salaah. Sana should be recited first, then the Fatihah, followed by a surah, or some verses of the Qur'an. However, if one forgets, or didnt know, then there is no harsh punishment for them, as Allah the Almighty has made religion easy for all types of people. It is just us, who must try and keep firm, and be consistent upon the Straight Path.
wallaho a'lamu bithawaab. Muhammad Waseem Ashrafi
