Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Imam Sahb, I know its important to pray our qaza before nafli salat, but can we excuse the naflis of say zohar and Isha salat to pray our missed qaza's instead, if there are many years of qaza outstanding ?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam)Jazak'Allah for your question. It is neccessary for you to excuse the nafil Salaah of say Zohar or 'Isha' prayer, in order to pray your Qadha' Salaah. It is one of the best ways to account for your Qadha' Salaah, as long as you keep a record of them. Of course, you could pray the nafils as well, and pray your Qadha' seperately, and that way you will not miss out on any reward. But the point is, not to gain reward, but the performance of the obligation of praying fard Salaah, which you owe to Allah, and that can be done by either giving up your nafils in place of Qadha' Salaah, or by performing them, as well as your nafils.Remember, nafil Salaah, is not as important as fard Salaah, because if you miss nafil Salaah, you will not be punished, nor rewarded. But if you miss your fard Salaah, and many fara'id are outstanding, then this is punishable by the Almighty. Once you perform them, then it is up to Him, whether He punishes you for their late performance or not. But to be ignorant of them, is to gain a ticket for hell, without asking. Please understand this emphasis regarding Salaah, and Qadha' Salaah. May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq, to pray Salaah at the right time, and may He forgive us for our own personal faults, which we sometimes do not see. (Amin)Wallahu Alamu BiththawaabM.
