Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. It is perfectly permissible to listen to the adhaan or any other Islamic verse, du'a or recitation, even if your not actively going to take part providing your focus is upon listening attentively. However it is not desirable to have the adhaan or other Islamic recitation as a ringtone as one has no control over when someone is going to ring you, such as in the bathroom, when the television is on etc. The adhaan should only be listened with adaab and not whilst one is engaged in other activities which may take ones attention away from the adhaan.
