Assalamu'Alaykum Many of my freinds are telling me that coca cola is haram and i should not drink it. They say that Alcohol is used in the preparation of the Kola leaf and Kola nut mixture (20% Alcohol) But according to Coca Cola THAT is incorrect ? So what is the truth ? I know its not healthy to drink soft fizzy drinks and the company is American-Jewish owned but is there new evidence to suggest its haram, please advise as i do drink it regularly. I am also aware there are many ahadith saying keep away from all things if their is doubt but i need confirmation ! Jazakallah. Masalam

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim Wa'laykum as Salaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu, Anything which we consume, that is doubtful, for example coca cola, should not be bought or consumed. If you want to safegard your religion, then the excellence of such a person can be determined from the following hadith: "'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that i have heard from Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon Him) saying that ; that which is halaal is clear, and that which is haraam is clear, between both of these are the doubtful (mushtabihaat), which plenty people do not know about, thus whoever prevented from what is doubtful, has saved his religion (din), and his honour ('ird), and whoever delved into what is doubtful is like that shepherd who herds his herd around that meadow. It is close that he may delve them therein. Beware! Every king has his meadow. Beware! The meadow of the Almighty on this earth are those which He has forbidden (mahaarim). Beware! The body contains a piece of flesh, when this is kept stable, the whole body is kept stable. If this is unstable, then the whole body is unstable, and that is the heart"This hadith shows that what is halaal is known and what is haraam is known, and that anything outside the scope of halaal and haraam are known as the 'mushtabihaat'. These should be kept away from unless there is clear proof of it being halaal or haraam. Notice how anyone who delves into the 'mushtabihaat' is regarded as that shepherd who herds his cattle/herd on dangerous ground, and that what is halaal and what is haraam in terms of eating, drinking, wearing, and nikah, have been determined. This hadith has a great status in Islam. The scholars have said that this hadith consists of one third of Islam. The religion of Islam revolves around such ahaadith-e-mubaarikah. If coca cola is deemed to be haraam, then this places an obligation upon the company to disclose all the ingredients that the the drink contains, as coca cola is one of those drinks which is consumed in the whole world. If it doesnt, then it still should be refrained from, until there is clear evidence to the contrary, that none of its ingredients are haraam. Wallaho a'lamu Biththawaab..... M. Waseem Ashrafi
