Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
In Holland they are going to sell Halal meat in dutch supermarkets. There was a discussion here: white people were angry becoz they said that muslims kill animals in a way that they have a lot of pain. Now some butcher's shops have agreed on using anaesthesia. Today on a programme I saw this man who will be supplieing such meat, and he said it is halal with anaesthesia.
Could you please tell me more about this? Is it really halal? And should we buy the meat, if they are selling pork meat in dutch supermarkets too?
Thanks in advance!
Allah hafiz...

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa SallamJazak'allah for your question. If the butchers who are using 'anesthesia', before rendering an animal as halal, then this is permissible, so long as the animals life is not taken in any other way. The main Islamic way, which is a traditional way, is that one which is used by all Muslims. Allah the Almighty says: 'Wa ma uhilla bihi lighayrillahi'
'And do not slaughter your animals in any other way other than that with the name of Allah' This verse shows the method of slaughtering the animal halal, but since it does not mention the use of anesthesia, or other medicine, nor does it mention animals being dead prior to slaughter, it is nevertheless regarded as halal. The question however that crops to mind is that, what is the use of using such halal meat, which is controversial in a particular country, in its method of slaughter, and sold in supermarkets, by non Muslims? The answer to that question would be, it is best to buy the meat from Muslim butchers, whom you know who have made it halal, and to prevent from buying from the supermarkets, which may raise doubt ( shak), in the heart of a believer. A hadith states that the halal has been made clear, and the haram has been made clear, so why should we not follow that which is clear ( halal), and keep away from that which is doubtful ( mashkuk)? May Allah the Almighty guide us all upon the straight path, and may He make our lives, and life after death beneficial for us all. (Amin)Wallahu A'almu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
