Asalam Alaikum
What is the view on Ibn Jawzi?
Imam Ahle Sunnat Shaykh Abdul Haqq Muhaddis Dehwli Alaih Rahmah in 'Ta'aruf Fiqh Aur Tasawuf' states the opinion of Imam Zurraq that Ibn Jawzi was a person of ilm and had no tasawuff, he had no right in tasawuf also Ibn Jawzi criticised Imam Asfahani and Imam Ghazali Alaih Rahmah in his works.
Interestingly, they narrated a different incident when Ibn Jawzi had spoken against Huzoor Ghaus Paak Radi Allah Anhu and was forced to apologise.
So what is the verdict of the Ulema on Ibn Jawzi, many others have written that he was Mujaddid?
JazakAllah

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam The scholars still study Ibn-e-Jawzi, as he was a knowledgeable man. His works are evident of this, but his doctorines were inclined to those of Ibn-e-Taymiyyah, as he rejected tasawwuf, and concentrated more upon the unity of Allah, rather than the unity of Allah, and the dignity and respect of the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. It is for this reason that the scholars will refer to other mujtahids rather than Ibn-e-Jawzi, especially where the opinions of theirs and Ibn-e-Jawzi clash. However Ibn-e-Jawzi was still in conformation to the Sunnah and the hadith, although he did have a difference of opinion with regard to his doctorine with other ahl-as-Sunnah scholars. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
