Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Hadrat Utbah bin Abi LahabAbu Lahabs name was Abdul 'Uzza. He was the son of Abdul Muttalib, as Utbah was a Qurayshi Hashmi. He was the cousin of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. His mother was Umme Jamil, who was the daughter of Harb bin Umayyah, and the sister of Abu Sufyan. She was the one regarded as 'hamma latal hatab'. Utbah and his brother Mu'attab accepted Islam during the conquest of Makkah. Both of them fled Makkah through fear, of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. Thus the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam sent 'Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, who was their uncle, to them. Thus Hadrat 'Abbas brought both of them back, and both did accept Islam through which the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam was very pleased. Both of these were amidst the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam during the battle of Hunayn, as they were amongst those who remained firm in battle, and did not flee. They were also participants of the battle of Ta'if, as they never exited Makkah. They did not enter Madinah. They both had their offspring there. This is what I found in relation to the above Beloved Companion(s), which shows that they were Muslim prior to leaving this world. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM.
