Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam The Qur'an talks about Dhul Qarnayn thus: 'And Oh Muhammad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. These people ask you about Dhul Qarnayn. Say to them that I will mention something about him. We granted him power within the earth, and granted him many means. First he eqipped himself for an expedition of the west, until when he reached the west, he saw the sun setting in dark waters. There he met a nation. We said 'Oh Dhul Qarnayn you have attained the power to bring difficulty to them, and you also have the power to be good to them'. He said 'he who is a tyrant will be punishable, and he will be returned to his lord, and he will then punish him even more, and he who comes to faith (iman) and acts good, has a good recompense, as we shall give him soft commands'. Then he prepared himself for another expedition, until he reached the place where the sun rises. There he met a nation upon whom there was nothing available, for them to save themselves from the sun. This was their position. Whatever Dhul Qarnayn had, we were aware of. Then he prepared himself for another expedition, until he reached the peak of two mountains, where he found a nation, who very difficultly understood anything. Those people said to him that 'Oh Dhul Qarnayn Gog and Magog (Ya'juj, Ma'juj), are causing mischief amongst us, so why dont we offer you a form of tax by which you will be able to build a wall between us and them?' He stated 'Whatever my lord has given me is enough, but you must help me with great effort, I will build a wall between you and them, bring me some sheets of iron'. When he had covered the air between both mountains, he then said to the people 'build a fire', until the iron based wall became red hot like fire, he then stated 'I will cover it now with molten lead'. This wall was such that Gog and Magog could not even climb high enough, to get over it, and to cover it over again became that much more difficult for them. Dhul Qarnayn then stated 'this is the mercy of my lord, but when the time is up for the promise of my lord to be fulfilled, he will diminsh it into dust, and the promise of my lord is true'. (Qur'an, al Kahf, 83/98) Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
