Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim Wa’laykum-as-Salaam, The Qur’an al kareem states: ‘laa yamassuhu illal mutahharun’ None shall touch the Qur’an except those who are pure.Wudhu’ is one of the conditions which the majority of the ummah believe you should have before you even touch the Qur’an. However, where the Qur’an al kareem is kept in a material (ghilaaf), or in a box, then it is permissible to touch it, but not without it. Special care should be taken when you are handling the Qur’an. It should never be placed on the floor. It should never be touched without wudhu’. It should never be used as a pillow or a headrest, and nothing should ever be placed on top of it. The Qur’an al hakeem is the Highest Book in the world. It holds the words of the Almighty. If the Book which were belonging to the Almighty were to be misused, then we would be questionable, by the Qur’an, and its Owner on the Day of Judgement. It is the duty of Muslims to give esteem and reverence to anything that relates to the beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon Him), and to the Almighty, with great care and awareness, although those who are not aware, or do not care are the ones who will misuse, misplace, and in some extreme cases may even burn it…(May Allah save us from such actions). If one has touched it not knowing the state he is in, then it is upto Allah the Almighty, whether he forgives him or not, otherwise he will be sinful, and should repent from such actions. Wallaho a’lamo’bithawaab. M. Waseem Ashrafi
