Salem,
How do I know when I am reading a verse in the the Holy Quran or hear a verse from someone reading in the Holy Quran to do this?
I am not a native Arabic speaker. Alhemdeallah I do know the alphabet pretty much though. The Holy Quran's that I have are in English. However, I have a friend that can read beautifully Mashallah and I want to know what to listen for.
Sukron for the help. May ALLAH swt reward you for all of the help that you give.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa SallamJazak'allah for your valued question. There are fourteen points in the Qur'an al kareem, at which stage the prostration of recitation ( sajdah-e-tilawat) becomes necessary ( wajib). Those fourteen points are as follows: - Chapter 9, Surah al-A'raf, verse number 206;
- Chapter 13, Surah al-Ra'd, verse number 15;
- Chapter 14, Surah an-Nahl, verse number 50;
- Chapter 15, Surah Bani-Israel, verse number 109;
- Chapter 16, Surah Maryam, verse number 58;
- Chapter 17, Surah al-Hajj, verse number 18;
- Chapter 19, Surah al-Furqan, verse number 60;
- Chapter19, Surah an-Naml, verse number 26;
- Chapter 21, Surah as-Sajdah, verse number 15;
- Chapter 23, Surah Sad, verse number 24;
- Chapter 24, Surah Ha-Mim-Sajdah, verse number 38;
- Chapter 27, Surah al-Qamr, verse number 62;
- Chapter 30, Surah al-Inshiqaq, verse number 21;
- Chapter 30, Surah-al-'Alaq, verse number 19.
These are the 14 points at which the postration of recitation is required. I hope that the above quoted explanation is not difficult to understand. May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq, to ask and learn from one another. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
