as-salamo alekum,
I overheard a freind telling someone that it was not wise or against Islamic principals for someone to leave the house at around midnight ?
The person was going home from a social visit but was warned against leaving at this particular hour. Why ? is this a superstition if not can you give proofs from Quran or ahadith ?

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.
wa'laykum-as-Salaam
Thank you for the question. All that can be said is that one should stay away from such superstitions, as they do not have any Islamic basis.
When looked in the dictionary, the meaning of superstition arose as ... vision, superstition, anxiety, and Islam has clearly stated that the Muslim should keep away form these especially if the thoughts are misleading.
However this does not prevent us from being safe by going to permissable events and functions, and also returning home early. One must have to assess the situation that he is in, in order to return home safely especially at an hour like midnight.
May Allah the Almighty guide us, and keep us safegarded from all forms of evil.
