Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Is it possible for a Sheikh to have Ijazah and Tariqah too all the silsila's of sufism?
Furthermore, are all Silsila's equal or are some better then others?
Jazakallah

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, Jazakallah for your question dear brother. It is certainly possible that a Shaykh has the 'khilafah' and the 'ijazah' of more than one tariqah. Personally, I have come across, some scholars ('ulama') who have had at least five 'khilafahs' and five 'ijazahs' from numerous 'tariqahs' of the sufiistic paths. This simply shows that the person to whom these 'khilafahs' and 'ijazahs' are given to, has been recognised, by the 'tariqah', through the 'Shaykh', who may be in charge. Furthermore, it may be seen that the Shaykh has found in that person great capability, or a distinguished character, or the ability to reform men according to the way of the Most Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and Allah the Almighty. All the silsilahs are true, and follow a spiritual order. This is usually recognised as a lineage of Shaykh's, ending at the Beloved Prophet of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and then Allah the Almighty. Although many 'tariqahs' may have their own symbols and characteristics, nevertheless they will always teach the same lesson, that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). There is no single 'tariqah' which is superior than the others, and no 'tariqah' which is more inferior to others. They all belong to the Almighty Allah and to the Beloved Prophet of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and it is up to the potential murid, to chose a Shaykh from a tariqah, who will favour him, not only in this world, but also in the hereafter. The thing which is worth noting is that all the teachings of the Sufi silsilahs, are all according to the Qur'an al kareem, and Sunnah, any silsilah that claims that it is Islamic, yet does not comply with the teachings of the Beloved Prophet of Allah ( Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and what Allah the almighty has said, does not own a place in Islam. I hope that there is sufficient information here to guide you, and to help you, and inform you of what the 'tariqahs' in Islam stand for. May Allah the Almighty keep us all firm on the Straight Path, and may he forgive our passed sins through the medium of His serveants who are close to Him.Wallahu A'lamu Biththawaab M. Waseem Ashrafi
