Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Is it correct that each sufi order has a different colour allocated to it, I.E Ashrafi is orange or Qaadree is Green?
Do different colours mean different things according to Sufism, if so what?
and finally could you please explain Lataif-e-sitta? This is what I have read and I need clarification please.
Drawing from Qur'anic verses, virtually all Sufis distinguish Lataif-e-Sitta (The six subtleties), Nafs, Qalb, Sirr, Ruh, Khafi & Akhfa. These lataif (sing : latifa) designate various psychospiritual "organs" or, sometimes, faculties of sensory and suprasensory perception. In a rough assessment, they might appear to correlate with glands, organs, Chinese traditional or vedic chakras.
In general, sufic development involves the awakening in a certain order these spiritual centers of perception that lie dormant in every person. Each center is associated with a particular color and general area of the body, as well as oft times with a particular prophet, and varies from Order to Order. The help of a guide is considered necessary to help activate these centers. The activation of all these "centers" is part of the inner methodology of the sufi way or "Work". After undergoing this process, the dervish is said to reach a certain type of "completion" or becomes a Complete Man.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Praise be to Allah who is the Master of all the Worlds, and may He shower Endless Blessings upon Our Master, The Final Messenger (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam). The myth about colours being allocated to each Sufi Order, is not a recent one. Yet there are many people out there who seem to think that just because a particular colour is worn by a group of people, that they belong to a certain order. It is true that the Qadris are fond of the colour brown, as the Naqshbandis adore white. But this does not mean that, that colour has been allocated to them, as Allah is the creator of all colours, and all colours have, if not, will merge into one. That is the colour of Allah. The Qur'an al kareem says: 'sibghatallahi' 'Allah's colour'[/center] Although Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) is free from having any sort of colour associated with him, nevertheless, He has created all these colours. The colour that the Qur'an al kareem is talking about is the colour of Islam, and once the colour of Islam has penetrated deep into your heart, then by Allah, it will be very difficult for that colour to be washed away in any form or manner. When our lives and our hearts contain the true colours of Islam, of Allah and His Beloved Messenger (Salla Allahu ta'ala alayhi wa Sallam), then we can say that what we wear on the outside, is a true presentation of what we are on the inside. If our hearts are engaged in the Dhikr of Allah the Almighty, the tasbih, the tahlil, the takbir, and the tamhid, at all times, then our hearts will have truly gained its Islamic shade, but where we have no Dhikr of Allah, no love for Allah the Almighty or the Most Beloved Prophet of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), as we prevent ourselves from doing what they have ordered us to do, or we criticise the Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) His Companions Radi Allahu anhu, or degrade any of the seveants of Allah, then no matter what we do in our lives, that colour will not be recognised by anybody, not until it is drowned in the love for Allah the Almighty, His Most Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and all His servants. May Allah the Almighty continue to flourish the colours of the Sufi Orders of the Ahl as-Sunnah wal Jama'ah, and may He unite them all under one banner on the Day of Judgement. (Amin). Wallahu A'lamu Biththawaab M. Waseem Ashrafi
