Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam)Jazak'Allah for your question. Bayt, is a sunnah of the Noble Companions of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). Every Muslim, who is affiliated with the ahl as-Sunnah wal Jama'ah, should in practice, perform the bay'ah, with a Shaykh. The things to look out for in a Shaykh, are that, He must be in compliance with the shar'iyyah. His spiritual lineage, must also reach to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). He must not be a fasiq, i.e. He must not dwell in sin, in front of other people. These are the main things to look out for. Bayt, will give you a sense of belonging, guidance, a truce, which you will have to fulfil, in order to be part of the spiritual lineage. It will give you a set of orders, in the form of recitation and practices, which you may have to perform, therefore, it will constantly be looking after your Islamic well-being. Allah the Almighty says: 'Inalladhina yubayi 'una ka innama yubayi 'unallah'
'Surely those who swear allegiance to you, swear allegiance to Allah.' (Al Qur'an al kareem, 48:10) and: 'la qad radi Allahu 'anil Mu'minina idh yubayi 'unaka tahtash shajarati'
'Certainly Allah was pleased with the believers, when they were swearing allegiance to you under the tree.' (Al Qur'an al kareem, 48:18) When you see a person ( murshid), who has the above mentioned characteristics, and you know that he can change your religious life for the better, then I advise you that you swear allegiance to him ( bayt), as soon as possible. There are very few fortunate people who have true murshids, showing them the path to what is right, and preventing them from what is wrong. Therefore, I advise you to act quickly, and sincerely. May Allah the Almighty help and guide us through His beloved servants, and may He help us to make the right decisions, so that we better our worldly life, and the life after this one. (Amin)Wallahu Almau BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
