Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. Adopting more than one silsila/tariqa really depends on what kind of follower ( mureed) one is. If one is a follower, who sees 'no other' except his shaykh, then he will adopt the tariqa of his shaykh. If it so happens, that while he is affiliated to a shaykh he sees someone who enlightens him, and influences him to the extent that he wants to become a follower of this new shaykh, then he may make the intention of becoming a ' talib' and swear allegiance to that shaykh, which will keep him as a mureed of his old shaykh, but a ' talib' of this new shaykh. In comparison, a follower maybe granted khilafat by his shaykh, which will make him a deputy of his shaykh, as other shaykhs from different tariqas may grant him khilafat also, which will enable him to adopt more than one tariqa. In any event, by keeping down to earth, it is better that a person is sincere towards his shaykh, if he hasnt already been granted what has been mentioned above in any case.
