Salam,
Dear Imam,
Please could you tell me what a waseelah is? Some of my friends in school tell me it is a kind of shirk. I am confused, because I know my family believe in waseelah. Also what is the true meaning of shirk?
Can you please explain what I should do. Alot of young children are always arguing about many different things and this is just one of them.
Salam.

All Praise is due to Allah, The Most Glorious and The Majestic, Peace & Blessings upon His Beloved Messenger, Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, his Noble Companions & his Pure Ahl al-Bayt, & all those who follow them till the final day.
Allah, with His Name I begin; The Most Compassionate, The Most Merciful.
Waseelah in Islam is a means of approaching Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala'. To gain closeness, nearness to Him and to achieve His Pleasure.
The word Waseelah has been used in the Qur'an and in the books of Ahadith. There are both traditional proofs and rational proofs which prove beyond any doubt the validity and legality of approaching Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, through the Waseelah! It is valid & lawful to approach Allah, The Most Glorious & Majestic, through any means whatsoever as prescribed, inferred or encouraged by Shar'iah; Islamic Sacred Law, unless there is a clear definitive injunction of the Qur'an or rigorously authentic Hadith to prove otherwise.
Shirk is associating a partner or equalling someone or something to Allah, Glorified is He from such claims. When a Waseelah is a means, which is other than Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, is not equall to Allah in any sense at all, and is that which has prominence, value, worth and has distinguished honour in the Sight of Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, all of which is confirmed in the clear proofs from the Qur'an & Sunnah, it is nothing but absurd to suggest otherwise, and is synonymous to attributing to Allah, The Most Glorious & Majestic, that which He has not said, communicated or commanded.
There are some kinds of 'means' waseelah for which there is some dissagreement amongst the Pious Predecessors and the 'Ulama'. However, this diferrence was not considered a distinction between belief and disbelief. Rather, an issue of what is lawful and unlawful in Islam.
It is dangerous and totally unlawful in Islam for the common people let alone children to engage in such debates without knowledge and authority. One must turn to the Specialist Sunni 'Ulama' for clarity on such heated debates in our times. The incitement or causing of Fitnah; worldly or religious discord is far more severe than slaying someone.
It is important to disengage one self from such irresponsible children and from their illiterate so-called religious teachers who are communicating such harmful ideas to children. It is the Khalifah, the Qadi or the Mufti of Islam who are authorised and bear the responsibilty and accountability of issuing legal judicial opinions and decree's in Islam.
For the detailed explanation on the subject of Waseelah, please await the article under construction by the Admin and colleagues.
And, Allah, The Most Glorious and the Most Majestic, is All-Knowing.
