Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon Our Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa SallamJazakAllah for your question. In summer, zawal time starts at about 1pm and lasts till about 1.15pm. During this time we should not make a prostration ( sajdah). Since salah consists of prostration (sajdah), we are then not allowed to pray salah during this time. According to some scholars of the Ahl as Sunnah wal Jama'ah, we are not also allowed to do the tilawat of the Qur'an al kareem. However there is the agreement that tasbihs, and Darood Shareef maybe read. It is possible that you may have heard the people pray until zawal time, and you yourself, thought it to be zawal time. It may also be possible that you had heard a radio or tape playing, and it was not the original voice itself. In any event, I have outlined the general principle above. May Allah the Almighty give us all the tawfiq to practice what is right, and stay away from falsehood, and evil. (Amin)Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
