Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa saabihi wa Sallam)Jazak'Allah for your valued question. The verse that you have referred to from the Qur'an al Kareem is the following :
'Ya qawmid khulul ardal muqaddasatal lati kataballahu lakum wa la tartaddu 'ala adbari kum fa tanqalibu khasirin'Its translation is as follows:
'Oh my people, enter this holy land, which Allah has assigned to you, and do not turn back from that which will lead you to loss'The sacred land has been referred to mean either the
Bayt al Maqdis, just as Ibn-e-Abbas, Imam Siddi, and Ibn-e-Zayd (May Allah be pleased with them) have stated. Some have stated that it means the land where the mount
Tur is situated, and some have stated that it means Syria, where Damascus is situated.
This sacred land was overrun by a man named
Jabbar, and his people the
Jabbarin, as the Isrealites were told to wage war on these people, and to establish thier control over this territory. Allah the Almighty wanted the Bani Israel to enter into this land boldly, gallantly and victoriously.
Let us study the exegisis (
tafsir), of what Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na'imi
(Rehmatullahi ’Alaih) has stated, in his famous
Tafsir-e-Na'imi:
'O' Messenger
(Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), also remember that time when Hadrat Musa (alayhis 'salam) said to his nation, 'Oh Bani Israel, remember all those blessings which have been bestowed upon you by Allah the Almighty. That He has sent a lot of Messengers from amongst you, to the extent that no other nation has had such a number of Messengers sent to them. This is the esteem that you have. He made you the kings in this world, as great governors and kings were from amongst you. From this you gained a sovereign nation. He also bestowed upon you those blessings, which no nation before you had ever recieved. Nor will any other nation until the Day of Judgement shall receive.
Because of you the Egyptian Pharoahs were drowned, the seas were split, the
mann and the
salwa was given to you. Great saints had come from amongst you, and they shall come. Therefore be greatful towards these blessings as such, that in the land of the
Bayt-al-Maqdis, the
Jabbarin are in power, declare
jihad upon them and enter within it, victoriously. Destroy this evil and tyrant nation.
The residence of this holy place and sovereignty is only destined for you, therfore you must try. But be aware, do not turn your backs upon them, and flee towards the land of Egypt, otherwise you people will be indebted of it in this world, and the hereafter. This act of yours will be cowardice, from which the enemy will gain strength. Within this will be the disobeyance of your lord, and my opposition. What can be more detrimental than this.
It must be borne in mind, that at the time, there was the power of the misbelievers in two of the cities. Egypt, and Palestine. The Pharoah was in power in Egypt, and the 'Amalqah nation in Palestine. Allah the Almighty did not want these cities to be uprooted, but be freed of the misbelievers, that Islam, and faith should be in force.
Thus The Egyptians were ousted not by the
jihad against them, but were taken out and drowned, as the Bani Israel were their slaves at the time. They did not have power, nor the power to do
jihad. These people had now been freed. They were people of power, and people of a sovereign. They were then ordered that they perform
jihad against the Palestinians, and free Palestine from the misbelievers. Whatever the power of the people was, was faced with a similar command from the Almighty.
It also must be remembered that Makkah was also empowered by the misbelievers, which was also emptied through the recognition of the Messenger of Allah
(Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). But the misbelievers were not expelled from there, the misbelief of the misbelievers was expelled from their hearts, and transformed into Muslims. This is the difference between the
Kalim, and the Habib
(Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam). The second verse which you have referred to from the Qur'an al kareem is:
'Wa qulna mim ba'di hi li Bani Isra'ilas kunul 'arda fa idha ja'a wa'dul akhirati ji'na bi kum lafifa'It's translation is as follows:
'And we said to the children of Isreal after him, 'dwell in this land, then when the promise of the hereafter will come, we shall bring you all, rolled together' According to the
Nur ul-Irfan, the exegisis (
tafsir) of
Kanz al-Iman, Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan Sahib
(Rehmatullahi ’Alaih) states:
This means that land upon which Divine Punishment has not come is permissable to inhabit. Pharoah was taken out of Egypt, and then drowned. Otherwise to stop in a land where Divine Punishment is subjected is prohibited, let alone inhabiting it. Again by this land we mean either Syria, or both Egypt and Syria.
Remember that the Bani Israel, were very ungrateful during their times, and were the believers of their time. At that time, it was incumbent upon them to have belief in One God, and the relevant Messenger. We have belief in the continuation of the same message, in the form of the beloved Messenger of Allah Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa
(Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) the Qur'an the Last Testament, and Allah the Almighty.
Therefore the Muslims are the true inheritors of that which was propogated by the beloved Messenger of Allah
(Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and that which was propagated by previous prophets. But what was preached by previous Prophets has now been abrogated, and their teachings have also been distorted, by the Jews, at the time of the Beloved Prophet
(Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and in our time. Their teachings no longer remain the teachings which were originally of the Prophets, and this is also a detriment towards them, from the Almighty.
May Allah the Almighty keep us all firm upon the religion of Islam, and may He make us greatful for the religion which we have inherited, and for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us, and may He keep us away from being ungrateful. (Amin)Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
