Asalaam o'liekum
A question has been raised in the sister section of whther the woman after giving birth has to stay indoors for 40days, I'v heard of this and so have many other mothers I know.
I know this also goes for after a death of a husband, just wondering if you could bring some information on this matter.
Jazahka'ala, May you be rewarded. Ameen.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu Praise be to Allah who is the Master of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon Our Master the Last Beloved Prophet of Islam, (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam)Jazak'Allah for your question. There are some practices which people from the subcontinent still revert to, even though these practices may not be fard or Sunnah. Such practices are normally customary, depending on what area of the subcontinent one comes from. However, with the issue in question, I have never heard of this issue of a woman staying indoors after childbirth, for a period of forty days. If on the other hand, there is some information of it, being fard, wajib, Sunnah etc. Then please do not hesitate to let me know, I will be more than happy to know which book it is from, from whom the practice emerged, and whether such practices are valid in todays age and society. Otherwise, there is very little, or nothing that I know of this particular subject, as I have never been faced (literally), with such a mas'alah (issue). Jazakallahu khayrann M. Waseem Ashrafi
