As'salemolikum
Thank you for reviewing my question,
I am fasting now but do not know if it is valid or not. I set my alarm for 5 o'clock. Fajir is 5:40 and Sunup is 6:56 am. In time I woke up seeing the sun in my dreams. Then my alarm went off. I hit snooze and then only remember hitting it one more time but this time it was 6:23. I had not taken kushul yet. Today is the 7th day. I tried to fast yesterday but around 2:30 was invalid. I miss counted the days, maybe as I am getting older my pattern is changing. This is shy but I need you to know I am responsible about this as we are suppost to wait 7 days unless you know. From the past and checking I thought I was okay. So, I got up drank something and then took Kushul. I am fasting now but am concerned because you are suppost to stop drinking before Fajir and I did not get up until 6:23 but I was not even clean then. I prayed at 7:00 exactly. I did not drink anything other than what I had at 6:23. Is my fast still valid? Thank you.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. First of all it must be remembered that the least period of time for 'hayd' (menses) is three days and three nights. The most period of time for the bleeding is ten days and ten nights. Anything in addition to this will not be classified as hayd. Alternatively if the bleeding is less than 72 hours, ie three days and three nights it will again not be classed as hayd. By hayd we mean that habitual bleeding which occurs by the woman on a monthly basis. So if the bleeding has stopped before fajr yet you did not take ghusal until after fajr, then as long as you had made the intention for fasting before mid-day, and there was no more traces of blood, then your fast is valid. On the other hand, if you made sehri at 6:23am, and the beginning time for fajr was at 5:40am and you ate or drank something after that time, then your fast is invalid, as you have gone over the fajr beginning time, which is well after sehri ending time. You must leave at least half an hour to 45 minutes after sehri for fajr time to begin within the winter months for your fast to be valid, but this may vary from country to country, and timetable to timetable. May Allah the Almighty help us to perform His worship in the correct manner prescribed, and may He prevent us from making common mistakes.Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
