As-Salaam Alaikum,
Kindly clear my confusion on women not allowed to visit graves. If it is not allowed in Islam how come women in Malaysia visit their relatives graves and pray.
Thank you and May Allah Bless you.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam The general rule is that women should not visit graves, but exceptions have been made from place to place, and graveyard to graveyard. Let us just say that if there is a graveyard or a shrine where women are allowed, at a certain period of time, and no men are allowed, then that is permissable, since the prohibition lies in the mixing of men and women, when they visit together. However, sometimes it maybe the case, that at certain times and places, no men are allowed, or it is known by everyone of that place, that an elderly woman does enter the graveyard, then it would not be permissable for the man to enter it, since it would already be known that it is in use by a woman. If the times for women to visit have been specified, and that right has existed, and has remained in that area without any unlawfulness, then it is permissable for women to use that graveyard, solely for the purpose of remembering after death, or to convey reward, or even to keep the graveyard clean, whichever matter it may be. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
