Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuPraise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa SallamA great Islamic scholar & personality of his time named Shaykh 'Abd'al-Haqq Muhaddith Dehlavi Rehmatullahi ta'ala ’Alaih recommended in one of his books that because the spirits of your family members who have passed away, come to your house on Thursdays to seek if you have conveyed anything to them, that every Thursday one should pray the Fatehah, the Four Quls, the Last Two verses of Surah Baqarah, and then convey the reward to the spirits, as they will receive that reward. It is on this day that this is done, and is done with food placed in front of oneself, so that the blessings of the halaal food, alongwith the recitation of the above, can be consumed by oneself, and others. Many things are prayed when they convey the reward to their beloved ones who are not in this world. For example kalimah shareef, the Qur'an al kareem, Ayat 'al-Kursi, Ya Sin shareef, and Fatehah shareef, as mentioned previously. The main thing to remember about coveying the reward to a deceased person, is that he receives the reward, and not the food aspect. The food acts as a blessing for those who are around, so that they may have a form of blessing too. May Allah the Almighty help us to convey as much reward possible to our deceased ones, who maybe in needy of reward on Thursdays, and may He help us to commit the righteous acts, wherever, and whenever possible.
