Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, After the name of Allah, salutations be upon Our Master the Most Beloved Prophet of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. This issue about what will happen to a person, after the third question, in the grave. Well this may differ from version to version. Nevertheless here i shall quote what is stated in the 'Bahar-e-Shar'iyyat', by Mawlana Amjad 'Ali A'zami Rehmatullahi ’Alaih. "They shall say who told you of these answers. He shall say I read the book of Allah the Almighty, had faith therein and also believed in it."In some narrations, it has been said that after the angels recieve the answers to the questions, they will say ; "We knew you were going to say this".At this stage a caller will call from the skies, 'that my servant has told you the truth, spread for him a spread from paradise, and cloth him in the clothes of paradise, and let there be opened for him a door to paradise, that the sweet fragrance of paradise may reach him, and that wherever his sight reaches, that is the place where his coffin shall be increased to, and he shall be asked to sleep, just as a bridegroom is asked to sleep'. This is basically what shall happen to those peole who are close to Allah the Almighty. But those people who are not so close to the Almighty Allah, then it will be up to the angels of the grave for whom they widen the coffin, and for whom they dont. Otherwise the widening of the coffin can be different, according to the ranks of the people therein. For some it can be 70 feet long and wide, and for some where they require it to be, and for some, upto where thier eyesight reaches. Punishment shall also be given to those people who will be sinners, according to thier sin. Then they shall recieve salvation through the mediation of their Shaykh, Imam, saint or leader, or by the power of the Mercy of Allah the Almighty. This is a brief description of what will happen to a person in the grave dependant upon his status in life. I hope that this gives you an idea of what the ahaadith, and other related Islamic materials talks about on this subject. May Allah save all of us from the punishment of the afterlife, and may He make our lives and the lives in the hereafter, better for us.Wallahu A'lamu Biththawaab M. Waseem Ashrafi
