Assalamo Alaikum,
I am a regular visitor of graves and have found that women and girls are also visiting graves mainly from the pakistani background. Please could you give a full explanation as to if or why it is not permissable for women or girls to attend the grave.
It has been to my understanding that it is not permissable for any women or girls to attend grave's but my understanding is very limited and I can not expliain why. Please could you give me enough clarity.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam Jazak'allah for your question. In a hadith of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, it is narrated by Hadrat Buraydah Radi Allahu anhu who says that the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam said : 'I prevented you from visiting the graves, but now you must visit them.' (Muslim) This hadith proves that one hadith can repeal (i.e is a ' nasikh') a former hadith. It also makes permissible for a person to visit the graves. It is definitely permissible by unanimity that men can visit the graves, however there is some opposition [ ikhtilaf] in women visiting graves and cemetries. Allama Shaami Rehmatullahi ’Alaih has stated that elder women are allowed to visit graves only at those times when they are allowed to go to the Mosque to pray salah. [Ibn-e-Abidin Shami Mutawaffi 1252h. Radd al Muhtar, Vol 1, 843, Usmania Publications, Istanbul 1327h.]Mawlana Shah Ahmad Rida Khan Barelwi Radi Allahu anhu has prevented women wholly [ mutlaqann] from visiting graves and only has allowed for women to visit the tomb of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. However in todays 'day and age' where muslims and non-muslims alike, do not practice religion fully nor do they have any fear of the akhira, then to remind them of the Hereafter, it is allowed for both men to visit graves; so long as the women are veiled, and their timing of visiting the graves does not coincide with the visiting times of the menfolk. This is the case in Madina tul Munawwarah, at the Ennobled shrine of the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, and this practice should be equal everywhere.
