Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
I hope you are in the best of health and congrats on the new arrival.
I had a question related to Zakat. I own a factory in Pakistan which I regularly visit several times a year. Some of the workers there are extremley poor and are the only working members in the family.
My question was, would it be ok to give them some portion of Zakat or not?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa SallamJazak'allah for entrusting me with your question. If like you say, the workers are extremely poor, they have difficulty in providing food for themselves and their families, and you have no knowledge of anyone else that is as poor as them, then zakat is definitely for the poor. You may give them zakat money. It looks to me that you have bestowed a favour upon them by employing them, and this further favour of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala's upon them would be even greater. Who knows, after giving them the zakat, out of which persons mouth shall a du'a emerge, from which your din, and dunya may prosper .... Jazak'allah for the congratulations towards my newborn. ( Khayr Mubarak) and apologies for the delay in answering your question. May Allah give us the tawfiq to continuously provide for the poor and under priveleged through all of the means available to us.Wallahu A'alamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
