Assalam-u-Laykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu, Imam Saheb I have a question regarding the payment of zakat on commercially grown fish.
I have some fish pond where I am growing fish commercially. I purchased some small fishes of price say US$1000.00. Then spent another US$1000.00 to feed them for next three month. Now total investment becomes US$2000.00. I don't know the quantity and prices of fishes that are live at present. Is there any Zakat on these fish ?
If so then how to calculate the amount of payable Zakat.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Wa'alaykum 'Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhuAll Praise be to Allah who is the Lord of the Worlds, and may Endless Blessings be showered upon His Most Beloved, and Final Messenger of Islam, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam There are 3 types of animal upon which zakat is made compulsory (wajib). The camel, cow, and goat. The purpose of this classification is that these animals, if they are kept for a year, and are given their fodder, and milk is attained, or their babies are born, then they are known as 'sa'ima' and zakat is wajib upon these, as all other forms of animal which are used domestically, for example donkey horse mule, they have no zakat payable upon them. Similarly, fish that are kept in a pond, are not kept so that their babies maybe increased, nor is there acces to its milk or meat, therefore these would not be classed as being zakatable. Jazak'allah for your question. Wallahu A'lamu BiththawaabM. Waseem Ashrafi
