Islam is very precise about Muslims keeping themselves clean and smelling good at all times. Islam is a beautiful religion, full of wisdom and harmony. If this wonderful religion is followed properly then a typical Muslim would only be a great example to follow. So why do we eat in abundance of garlic, spices and curries etc, which is not only bad for us, but not good for ibaadat.
Thoughts ...

You cannot throw away the culture of your fathers and grandfathers way of living, the foods you mentioned are part of our stable diet, it has never harmed anyone, we all grew up with it, and will remain with it. This has got nothing to do with Islam ?

Doctors actually encourage the gorais to eat garlic as part of their diet, it fights off some infections as well. dont ask me which cos i dont know. Also Turmeric has been investigated in test linked to fight cancer cells. I read that somewher. dont know if its been proven though. I know too much chilli and oil and ghee is no good for your heart though so you do have a point. I suppose it all boils down to moderation. every thing should be eaten in moderation.

I do agree with you brother as I like ,I wont say english food, but plain boiled food to oily curries. Also im a vegetarian so im a spuds person. Give me a potato, boiled, fried , smash roast any thing I will eat it. Al though my mum has been trying me to eat bhaji etc.. for iron. But I love pasta and chips, and pizza and chips and so on... Mind you wasn't there a scare with the red food colouring recently conected to indian spices?

Does it matter what we eat as long as its halal ?
You cannot throw away our cultural foods and spices because we live in a foreign land if thats what you mean ?

Mind you wasn't there a scare with the red food colouring recently conected to indian spices? There are a lot of issues regarding the diet, but i think this is more cultural than Islamic ... ? The coloured dyes are prevalent in alot of asian foods and ingredients and we need to be more concious, and make our sisters and mothers more aware of the dangers. Its a fact we are very careless when it comes to these scares and more should be done by the authorities to highlight these issues.

I think all muslims are concious of health issues and maybe your overreacting .... ? We are living in a civilised country brother.

We are living in a civilised country brother. I have to disagree with you Karim, we are getting lazier and less and less conscious of our health. How many of us eat vegatbles like our parents do, they have been brought up in farming communities back home, meat was scarce and everything ended up being spiced. What future for our children .... curries and takeways arent exactly going to keep the doc away. I mean just look at this countries asians and Muslims we are not far behind the English as couch potatoes, because we dont watch our diet. If we carry on this rate, we shall overtake all other races as the no 1 heart cases.... think again what you and your families eat.

But not only do we have to educate the mothers and sisters but also the suppliers and the manufacturer's who in the first place make these dangerous dyes!
