THE DREAM
A visitor came to a Chishti pir. This visitor wanted to demonstrate his own knowledge of the Qur’an and intended to overpower the Chishti pir in a debate. When he entered, the Chishti pir took the initiative however and mentioned Yusuf and the dreams he has had according to the Qur’an. He then suddenly turned to his visitor and asked him if he could tell him about a dream, so that the visitor may give his interpretation thereof. After receiving permission the Sufi told that he has had a dream and both of them were in it. The Chishti pir then went on by describing the following dream event: “I saw your hand immersed in a jar of honey, while my hand was immersed in the latrine”.
The visitor hastened to interpret: “It is quite obvious! You are immersed in wrong pursuits whereas I am leading a righteous life”.
“But’, the Sufi said, “there is more to the dream”. The visitor asked him to continue. The Chishti pir then went on by telling this: “You were licking my hand and I was licking yours”.

This story was narrated by His Holiness Shaykh-ul-Islam Hazrat Syed Mohammed Madani Ashrafi-ul-Jilani during one of his evening mehfils in Blackburn, whilst residing at a mureed’s house (August 2004).
Hazrat Amir Khusro r.a. (Amir Khusro) once met Hazrat Boo Ali Shah Qalandar r.a. (Boo Ali Shah), a revered sufi saint of his time. Boo Ali Shah asked Amir Khusro who his Peer-o-Murshid was. To this came the reply ‘Hazrat Nizammuddin Auliya r.a. (Mehboob-e-Elahi). Boo Ali Shah said, ‘I have not seen him in the mehfils of Rasool-Allah s.a.w'. Upon hearing this Amir Khusro was saddened and relayed the event to his Peer-o-Murshid. Hazrat Nizammuddin Auliya said to Amir Khusro that the next time Boo Ali Shah says this, ask him to take you to the mehfil. This is what happened when Amir Khusro met Boo Ali Shah again.
Boo Ali Shah took Amir Khusro on a spiritual journey to a blessed mehfil of Rasool-Allah s.a.w. They passed numerous esteemed personalities on this journey but Amir Khusro saw no sign of his Peer-o-Murshid. Amir Khusro started to feel anxious. The more they journeyed the greater the esteemed personalities they encountered. Hazrat Amir Khusro became more and more saddened at not seeing his Peer-o-Murshid. Finally, Boo Ali Shah and Amir Khusro approached an enclosed room. As they entered they saw that three personages were present. In the middle was Rasool-Allah s.a.w. To Rasool-Allah s.a.w.’s right was Mehboob-e-Subhani, Ghaus-e-Pak, Shaykh Hazrat Syed Abdul Qadir Jilani r.a, and to his left was Mehboob-e-Elahi Hazrat Nizammuddin Auliya r.a.
Subhan-Allah! This story truly magnifies the 'shan' of Mehboob-e-Elahi and also speaks of the beautiful world of tasawwuf which is bestowed by Allah upon those who become the most dearest to Him.

Moving away from the thread but still on the subject of dreams, the following has been copied and pasted from Geocites. It is the story about Imam Hasan al-Busairi r.a, the composer of the famous Qaseeda Burda Sharif (The Poem of the Scarf)....
The writer HAZRAT IMAAM SAALIH SHARA-FUD-DEEN ABU ABDULIAH MUHAMMAD BIN HASAN AL-BUSAIRI R.A had become paralysed. His doctors and physicians gave up all hope of his recovery. Eventually in this state of complete helplessness and despair he composed this poem expressing the grandeur and excellence of Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam. Using this as his sole means of asking Allah Ta'alaa to cure him from his illness. He isolated himself in a quiet place one Thursday night and with complete devotion, concentration and sincerity/ began reciting this poem. While reciting it sleep overcame him. He had a vision of Sayyidina. Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam. He told Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam of his illness whereupon Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam passed his blessed hand over Imam Busairi's body. Through the barakat and blessing of Sayyidina, Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam Allah Ta’alaa granted him complete cure from his paralysis. When he awoke he found a scarf or shawl on his body which he had seen Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam place on his paralysed limbs. This resulted in the poem being named "Qasidah Burdah" (The Poem of the Scarf).
In the morning when due to some necessity. he went to the bazaar, a pious dervish greeted him with salaam and requested him to recite the qasidah which he had composed in praise of Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam The poet said that I have composed many poems in praise of Rasuluallah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, which one do you wish to hear? The dervish replied: 'The one which begins with, A-min Tazak-kurin (i.e. Qasidah Burdah)". Upon this request the poet became wonder struck and said, "I take an oath that no one knows about this poem. Tell me the truth, from whom did you hear about it?" The dervish replied, "I take an oath by Allah that I heard it from you last night when in a dream you had recited it to Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, whereupon Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam became attentive towards you and because of its blessings Allah Ta'alaa granted you complete cure from your ailment".
Sunhanallah!
When the poet gave this poem to the dervish his secret became known to all the people and its barakat and blessings too became general for all.
When this poem reached Baha-ud-deen the governor of the country named Tahir, he so highly regarded and respected it that he would stand while listening to it.
It is also narrated that Sa'aadud-deen Farouqi, who was a viceroy of Baha-ud-deen, had became blind. In a dream he saw a pious person who told him to take the Qasidah Burdah from Baha-ud-deen and place it on his eyes. In the morning he told Baha-ud-deen about this dream. The Qasidah Burdah was brought and with full sincerity and conviction Sa'aadud-deen placed it on his eyes. Through its barakat Allah Ta'alaa granted him complete cure and restored his eyesight.

The Chishti pir then went on by describing the following dream event: “I saw your hand immersed in a jar of honey, while my hand was immersed in the latrine”.
Excellent thread, and beautiful stories and statements. The importance of Awliya’s of Islam and how we should regard them in high esteem and listen and learn from them, let them guide us to the true Islam, the Islam that our beloved prophet Muhammad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam taught. The Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) Muhammed Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam has stated, “My Ahle Bayt are like Noah’s (A.S.) ark. He who gets on board will be saved. He who does not will get drowned.” Some of the savants have said that our. Prophet Muhammed Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam likened the shahaba to stars, He who follows a star will find the way, and he likened the Ahle Bayt to a ship, for he who boards a ship should advance under the guidance of the stars. The ship will not get to shore if it does not follow the stars. As it is seen, since both the ship and the stars are indispensable for being saved, it is necessary to love and respect all the shahaba as well as the Ahle Bayt. To dislike one of them means to dislike all of them. For all of them have the virtue of having been honoured with the company of the best of mankind.. And the virtue of the company, which is called the Sohbat, is superior to all virtues. Sohbat means to be in the company of someone at least once. It is written in ‘Khazanat-e-Riwayat’ and ‘Mudmaraat’ that being in the Sohbat of a savant of din for one hour is more useful than worshipping for 700 years. We now have two very contrasting views and beliefs ; 1 given by the Deoband/Tableeghi/Wahabi on one side and the Noble Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam and Allah Almighty’s words on the other side. It is obvious to all seeking truth which belief to follow. The walis of Allah, i.e.; the Pir’s the saints, the Awliya’s of Islam are friends of Allah, and they deserve our up most respect. Allah Ta’ala has called for respect for the Walis and the Ulema. For those insolent towards Awliya- Allah, Allah Ta’ala has replied through a Hadith-Qudsi: “He who wages a war on my friend, wages a war against Me.”. These indeed are Allah Ta’ala words that no deobandi or Wahabi follower who calls himself a Muslim can afford to ignore.
May Allah give us tawfiq to understand and respect His friends. Ameen
